What Vera Can and Can't Do: Capabilities and Limits
Vera is a strong fit when you need a business line that can answer routine inbound calls, capture why someone is calling, take messages, and help with repeatable phone work. She is not a substitute for human judgment, an emergency service, a global phone carrier, or a shared team contact centre.

What Vera handles well
Vera works best when the goal and business rules are clear. On a line where Vera is enabled, she can answer as your business, ask who is calling and why, use the profile you supplied, save the result, and notify you. If a caller needs you and this phone is registered to ring, Vera can hand the call off to the app.
- Screen routine inbound calls and collect a caller's name, reason, callback details, and requested action.
- Take a message or let a screened caller reach you when the call should continue.
- Use your business name, services, hours, greeting, and call-handling rules during screening.
- Keep screened-call results, summaries, voicemail, and call history together in VeraDial.
AI calling and live translation
On Vera Plus and during the full-feature trial, Vera can place goal-based outbound AI calls and support live translation on eligible calls. These tools are for legitimate, expected business conversations with a clear purpose. Vera identifies the AI use and is not designed for emergency calling, mass outreach, impersonation, or high-stakes advice.
- Good fits include confirmations, follow-ups, availability checks, callback requests, and bounded information gathering.
- A human should handle complaints, negotiations, sensitive personal matters, and medical, legal, or financial advice.
- Emergency and premium or unverifiable destinations are unavailable.
Text messaging: the current US limitation
Inbound texting remains available on supported lines, and Vera can draft or send replies when the SMS assistant is enabled. Outbound SMS to US destinations is currently blocked for ordinary local-number sending while carrier registration is pending. VeraDial stops those messages before sending instead of showing a false success. Other routes still depend on the line type, destination, opt-out state, and carrier eligibility shown in the app.
- The US pre-send block applies even if a message was written manually or drafted by Vera.
- Inbound SMS is not disabled by the US outbound block.
- Do not promise a caller a texted booking link unless the app confirms that the line and destination can send it.
Appointments, training, and integrations
Vera Plus can connect selected lines to Google Calendar for conversational appointment booking when the required hours and timezone are configured. Plus also unlocks custom training sources and outbound event integrations. The read-only VeraDial connector for ChatGPT, Codex, Claude, and compatible clients is included on both plans.
- Calendar access is intentionally narrow: Vera checks availability and manages a separate VeraDial Bookings calendar.
- Webhooks and Zapier move screened-call, voicemail, AI text-reply, and appointment events into other tools; delivery is not an instruction for Vera to take arbitrary external actions.
- The AI-assistant connector reads bounded account information. It cannot change settings or place a call.
Vera Lite, Vera Plus, and the trial
Vera Lite includes the inbound receptionist and SMS assistant. Vera Plus adds outbound active-AI features such as AI calling and live translation, plus premium booking, training, and integration capabilities. The trial grants the full Plus feature set with trial allowances. Open Plans & Billing for the current price and usage limits; those figures can change sooner than this guide's workflow advice.
Where VeraDial works—and where it does not
VeraDial is built around US and Canadian business numbers and standard-rate calling in those markets. It is not a global carrier replacement, a multi-agent contact-centre suite, or an internal team-chat/shared-inbox product. Businesses that need worldwide number coverage, complex human queues, or regulated professional decision-making should keep the appropriate specialist system and people in the loop.
A simple fit test
VeraDial is a strong fit if one owner or a small business needs a verified line, routine call coverage, structured call results, and optional AI help with outbound tasks. It is probably not the right fit if the core requirement is a staffed shared queue, unsupported international coverage, unrestricted bulk messaging, emergency handling, or autonomous decisions that must be made by a licensed professional.
FAQ
Can Vera replace a human receptionist completely?
Not in every situation. Vera can cover routine intake, screening, messages, and repeatable calls, but a human should own emotional, ambiguous, regulated, or high-stakes conversations and any decision that requires professional judgment.
Can Vera place outbound AI calls on Vera Lite?
No. When the current two-plan model is active, Vera Lite includes inbound Vera features, while outbound AI calling and live translation require Vera Plus. The full-feature trial can be used to evaluate those Plus capabilities.
Can I send SMS to US numbers right now?
Ordinary outbound SMS to US destinations is currently blocked for local-number sending while carrier registration is pending. Inbound texts remain available, and the app checks the exact sender and destination before any outbound message is accepted.
Does Vera book appointments directly?
Vera Plus can offer and confirm appointments during eligible inbound screening after Google Calendar is connected and valid business hours, timezone, and line selection are configured. Otherwise Vera can take a message or, where SMS is eligible, offer a booking link.
Can the AI-assistant connector change my account?
No. The connector is read-only. It can answer bounded questions about account settings and activity, but it cannot change a setting, place a call, or trigger another external action.
Does VeraDial support phone numbers outside the US and Canada?
VeraDial's business-number and standard-rate calling experience is built for the US and Canada. If international number inventory or broad worldwide routing is essential, treat that as a product-fit boundary rather than assuming coverage.
